What is the Nisab for silver Zakat?

The silver Nisab is the minimum amount of silver on which Zakat becomes due after one complete lunar year. It is generally estimated at 595 grams of pure silver. If a Muslim owns this amount or more in full ownership for an entire Hijri year, silver Zakat is due at 2.5%.

The gross weight of a silver item is not always the amount used. The calculation is based on the pure silver it contains. Silver with a fineness of 999 is nearly pure, while an item with a fineness of 925 must be adjusted to count only its pure silver content; the remainder consists of other metals added for durability or manufacturing.

When is silver Zakat due?

Silver Zakat is due once the silver reaches the Nisab and remains in the owner's full possession for one complete lunar year. The year begins on the day the holdings first reach the Nisab.
